Advanced Myofascial Release
Myofascial Release is a highly specialized type of bodywork used to release fascial restrictions. Fascia is a thin layer of connective tissue that runs through and around every organ and muscle within the body, from the tips of the toes to the top of the head. Because fascia winds throughout our entire body…. the incidence of knotting and restrictions is likely and can begin to compress nerves and muscles. Obviously, poor posture results from the increase in pain and pulling by causing us to compensate using alternate muscles and movements. Myofascial Release relieves pain and restrictions, resulting in good posture and regaining function.
Lymphatic Massage
The lymphatic system plays a key role in the elimination of toxins from the body and is responsible for our immunity. By stimulating the lymphatic system, the immune system of the body is strengthened. Since the lymphatic system doesn’t have a ‘pump’ of its own like the heart, a skilled therapist must mimic the pumping system for draining and detoxifying benefits. By gently stroking, the therapist pushes lymph (fluid) in the proper direction, to the proper channels causing waste and excess fluid to leave the body more quickly.
Pre-Natal Massage
Pregnancy can cause muscle strain to the body, especially to the low back, pelvic girdle and legs. Massage improves circulation, relieves muscles tension, and improves flexibility. Special training is required to unsure the safety of the fetus. In addition, myofascial release can be used to reduce breast tenderness, minimize sciatica, and possibly avoid the need for an episiotomy. We are trained to provide pre-natal massage in all three tri-mesters.
Post-Partum Massage
Post-partum massage is very beneficial in avoiding post-partum depression by helping the body regain its proper hormonal balance quicker that normal. The massage will also make sure that the pelvis is properly balanced as the softened cartilage begins to re-solidify. Finally, the post-partum massage encourages the "baby belly" to contract back to its original size. Not to mention, it feels good after your long ordeal!
Scar Tissue Repair
After most every kind of surgery, the body naturally lays down scar tissue as part of the healing process. This scar tissue, helps close the wound and protect the injured area. Unfortunately, in some individuals, scar tissue has a way of getting out of control ; thus impacting other muscles, nerves, or organs in the process. Special techniques can be used to help limit the spread of the unwanted scar tissue as well as mimimize visual scar on the surface of the skin.
Mastectomy/Breast Tissue Repair
From minimal cosmetic surgery to radical mastecttomies, breast tissue is particularly prone to scar tissue build up. Specially trained therapists can address this issue and help control the scarring, minimize the visual impact of the scar, reduce inflammation, and restore proper lymph drainage. This would also include breast enhancements and augmentations.
Women's Specialized Pelvic Issues
Numerous female pelvic and gynocological issues have a musculur component that can be reduced or resolved through advanced myofascial release techniques. These issues include but are not limited to the following: irritable bowel syndrome, menstrual cramping, endometriosis, pelvic floor pain/dysfunction, urinary incontinence, frequency, vulvadynia, lack of sexual sensativity, episiotomy scarring, infertility problems, and even migraine headaches, just to name a few.
Infant Massage
We offer both infant massage and infant massage training for the new parent(s). The massage we offer makes sure that the babies muscles are balance to encourage proper growth of both the muscles and the bones. This massage can also calm collic-prone babies, reduce acid reflux, and encourage good sleeping habits. The infant massage we teach you is intended to also help keep the baby's muscles in balance, but more importantly, it stimulates the bonding process, especially between father and baby.
Massage Cupping
Cupping is an ancient Chinese technique used to stimulate lymph drainage, break down scar tissue, and remove adhesions. By sucking the skin upward away from the underlying muscles, cupping is able to stretch the skin in a direction that most other massage techniques cannot do. Be warned, however, even though the cupping has been performed properly, it can leave temporarily marks where the blood has been drawn to the surface of the skin.
Myotherapy
Myotherapy is a 'trigger point' therapy. It involves pressing on small, constricted, sore points that trigger pain in areas away from those points. For example, a tense, painful knot of muscles in the neck might cause pain in the head. In this case, myotherapy would involve pressing on the knotted neck muscles to decrease the pain in the head. Myotherapy is very similar to acupressure. The main difference between acupressure and myotherapy is that myotherapy is based upon manipulation of muscle and acupressure is based upon nerves and energy meridians.
Myostretching®
Myostretching® is a revolutionary program designed for the specific needs of Fibromyalgia sufferers. Myostretching® is a specialized technique of muscle movements that target the fascial system and allows the body to move more easily. Fascia is a three-dimensional web of connective tissue layered throughout the body. It separates, protects, cushions and supports our physical body. Fascia can become tight due to stress, illness or injury and as the fascia tightens we lose the normal flexibility that our muscles need to move properly. When our muscles cant move, they create a response referred to as pain. Myostretching® helps restore that flexibility to our muscles and allows the body to move more easily and reverses the cycle of chronic pain. Everyone can benefit from Myostretching®, but for people who suffer with Fibromyalgia, it can bring the peace and comfort they have been searching the world to find.
Restored Balance is pleased to be the only authorized Myostretching® facility in Pennsylvania.
