Therapeutic Massage
Each Therapist at Relaxation & Retreat Massages of York utilizes their training and experience to customize your massage. We review your past medical history and assess your individual needs to determine the appropriate use and blend of skilled techniques and integrated stroking. We manipulate the soft tissue using many different styles of massage stroking and may include superficial or deep, long or short, and broad or pinpoint, but is a combination focused on healing and relaxation. Our goals are to improve health and well being as we release and reduce stress and tension, improve circulation, and maximize function.

Medical Massage
Medical massage is the application of precise strokes and stretches as needed to treat a specific medical issue or condition.  Unlike a therapeutic massage, a medical massage is very focused and requires an in depth knowledge of the body and all its muscular components.  It is for this reason that medical massage requires far more intense training on behalf of the therapist in order to be performed properly.  Medical massage can be used to address issues related to diseases, disabilities, injuries, posture, pain management, etc so long as there is a muscular component.  Some examples of medical conditions helped by medical massage include Fibromyalgia, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Herniated/Buldging Discs, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Endometriosis, Neck Pain/Strain, Pelvic Floor Pain/Dysfunction, Urinary Incontinence, Joint Pain, Mastectomy Pain and Scarring, Infertility Problems, and Migraine Headaches, just to name a few.

Myostretching
Myostretching is a revolutionary program designed for the specific needs of Fibromyalgia sufferers.  Myostretching is a specialized technique of muscle movements that target the fascial system and allows the body to move more easily.  Fascia is a three-dimensional web of connective tissue layered throughout the body. It separates, protects, cushions and supports our physical body.  Fascia can become tight due to stress, illness or injury and as the fascia tightens we lose the normal flexibility that our muscles need to move properly. When our muscles can’t move, they create a response referred to as pain.  Myostretching helps restore that flexibility to our muscles and allows the body to move more easily and reverses the cycle of chronic pain. Everyone can benefit from Myostretching, but for people who suffer with Fibromyalgia, it can bring the peace and comfort they have been searching the world to find.

R&R Massages is pleased to be the only Authorized Myostretching Facility in Pennsylvania.

Sports Massage
Sports Massage can be both stimulating and invigorating! Athletes find this style of bodywork helpful both before and after events. If indicated the focus will be on muscle groups relevant to a particular sport. Sports massage is an integral part of an athlete’s training routine as it can enhance performance and accelerates recovery time.

Neuromuscular Massage
Trigger Point Therapy works by applying a specific amount of pressure to irritated or hypertonic areas of the body. Trigger points are usually very painful to the touch and may refer pain elsewhere in the body. By releasing these trigger points; the client experiences immediate relief from pain as well as an increase in range of motion in the areas worked.

Myofascial Release
Myofascial Release is a highly specialized type of bodywork used to release fascial restrictions. Fascia is a thin layer of connective tissue that runs through and around every organ and muscle within the body, from the tips of the toes to the top of the head. Because fascia winds throughout our entire body….the incidence of knotting and restrictions is likely and can begin to compress nerves and muscles. Obviously, poor posture results from the increase in pain and pulling by causing us to compensate using alternate muscles and movements. Myofascial Release relieves pain and restrictions, resulting in good posture and regaining function.

Lymphatic Massage
The lymphatic system plays a key role in the elimination of toxins from the body and is responsible for our immunity. By stimulating the lymphatic system, the immune system of the body is strengthened. Since the lymphatic system doesn’t have a ‘pump’ of its own like the heart, a skilled therapist must mimic the pumping system for draining and detoxifying benefits. By gently stroking, the therapist pushes lymph (fluid) in the proper direction, to the proper channels causing waste and excess fluid to leave the body more quickly.

Pre-Natal and Post-Partum Massage
Pregnancy can cause muscle strain to the body, especially to the low back, pelvic girdle and legs. Massage improves circulation, relieves muscles tension, and improves flexibility. It is great for mom and baby!

Hot Stone Therapy
The use of hot stones promotes a deep relaxation. Stones are placed on several different points of the body to warm and heat specific areas while the therapist massages the body using stones of appropriate size and temperature creating an amazing experience and connection..

Cranial/Sacral
A qualified and skilled Therapist works with the flow of the cerebral spinal fluid rebalancing dysfunctions that can develop within the cranial and sacral system.
